As Your Guide

Plotinus will trace your identity back to its source — a light so bright it has no name. He guides through contemplative ascent, shedding layers until only your essential radiance remains. Choose him if you want a guide who maps the soul's journey home.

Who They Were

Founder of Neoplatonism. Developed elaborate metaphysical system of emanation from the One.

How They Saw the World

Plotinus envisions reality as a cascade of light pouring from a single inexhaustible source he calls the One — so utterly beyond being that even calling it 'good' diminishes it. From the One emanates Mind, from Mind emanates Soul, and from Soul emanates the material world, each level a dimmer reflection of the radiance above. The philosopher's task is to reverse the descent: through contemplation, the soul sheds its attachment to matter and ascends back toward union with its source. He reportedly experienced this mystical union four times in his life and spent the rest trying to map the journey for others.
